In June 2019, LUCEM (producer of light-transmitting concrete elements) and the building materials producer Holcim Deutschland and its subsidiary VETRA Betonfertigteilwerke GmbH signed a cooperation agreement. The aim of the cooperation is to use the respective strengths of the partners for optimized production and improved distribution channels as well as to jointly develop further new ideas for translucent concrete products. Design and lighting technology are at the responsibility of LUCEM, while Holcim is primarily concerned with the concrete, including raw materials, line production in its own precast concrete plants of the subsidiary VETRA Betonfertigteilwerke GmbH as well as new marketing and distribution channels.
„I am looking forward to further cooperate. This is where partners come together who excellently complement each other with their strengths and thus further increase the innovative power, „says Thorsten Hahn, CEO of Holcim (Deutschland) GmbH.
„As a relatively young company, LUCEM has quickly established itself internationally in the very special field of light-transmitting concrete. We are looking forward to the cooperation with Holcim Deutschland Group as a strong partner with first-class production facilities and a global network „, says Dr.-Ing. Andreas Roye, founder and CEO of LUCEM GmbH.
The cooperation partners recently launched the first joint communication measures: Holcim presents LUCEM solutions in a new architectural concrete brochure and LUCEM points to the new cooperation partner Holcim in an invitation to the trade fair Architect@Work in Hamburg trade fair for architects, interior designers, etc.).

Whether large or small projects: The employees of the companies of the Holcim Deutschland Group develop tailor-made solutions for craftsmen, builders, architects and engineers. Products such as cement, aggregates, ready-mixed concrete or precast concrete products, as well as other services, provide solutions to some of society’s greatest challenges: creating spaces for living and working, building infrastructure, facilitating mobility, securing energy supplies or realizing innovation. Holcim employs around 2,100 people at more than 150 locations in Germany and the Netherlands and is part of the world’s leading building materials group LafargeHolcim Ltd.
The LUCEM GmbH from Aachen manufactures light-transmitting concrete elements since 2007. Light-transmitting concrete is processed like natural stone in the form of panels and is used, for example, for wall cladding, facades, floors or furniture. Embedded light-transmitting fibers transport the light from the rear lighting to the surface without loss. This creates a translucent appearance and the light concrete begins to shine fascinatingly from the inside out. LUCEM GmbH has participated in over 300 international projects up to now.
