  • Somaco produced 4500 precast concrete elements for coastal protection (concrete armour units) for the rehabilitation project of the Black Sea coast in Eforie area
  • About 5750m of the existing coastline will be protected. About 33 hectares of beach will be created
  • The Xbloc concrete armour units were produced with ECOPlanet green cement and ECOPact green concrete, Holcim solutions that reduce CO2 emissions by over 30%.

Somaco Grup Prefabricate was selected by Van Oord Dredging and Marine Contractors bv to produce 4500 Xbloc precast concrete elements to be used in the rehabilitation project of the Black Sea coast in Eforie area, Lot 5. The project is implemented by Van Oord Dredging and Marine Contractors bv. for Administratia Bazinala de Apa Dobrogea-Litoral.

Somaco produced and transported for this project 4500 precast concrete elements – Xbloc concrete armour units. The elements produced in our plant in Buzau will contribute to the protection of about 5750m of existing coast line and creation of about 33 hectares of new beach.

“We took the challenge of creating a new business line in order to contribute to the preservation of the Romanian coastline, both through the production of precast concrete elements that protect a sensitive area of Romania, but also through the use of the ECOPlanet – green cement with low carbon footprint. It is a complex project, which requires compliance with strict requirements regarding the technical performance of the products, but also an ambitious delivery schedule. We are glad that the names of Somaco Grup Prefabricate and of Holcim Romania, of which we are part, are now associated with the protection of the oldest region of the country „, said Sorin Miron, General Manager of Somaco Grup Prefabricate.

We chose Somaco Grup Prefabricate to be our partner for this project, because we share the same vision and values – sustainability, innovation, high quality of products and services, high safety standards”, mentioned Marius Stamat, Manager Van Oord Romania.

The precast concrete elements for the coastal protection of Eforie area were produced with ECOPact green concrete (based on the ECOPlanet green cement, that involved 40% less emissions and 30% recycled material).

In the current conditions, when the increased control of CO2 emissions is urgently needed, the Holcim Romania Group takes an important step for the entire construction industry and opens, through Somaco and the ECOPlanet cement, the road of precast concrete constructions with green cements.
