Sinoboom is expanding its high-reach articulated boom offering with the AB42RJ Plus family, combining a 43.6 m working height with high platform capacity, extensive horizontal and below-ground reach, a rotating jib, compact transport dimensions and a choice of diesel, electric or electric with Range Extender power configurations.
For rental companies, performance in the 40 m-plus articulated boom category is about much more than maximum working height.
A machine must offer the working envelope to tackle a wide variety of applications, sufficient platform capacity for people and tools, on-site manoeuvrability and practical transportation between jobs. Increasingly, fleet owners are considering how one machine can respond to different power requirements as customers move between conventional jobsites, urban environments and emissions-sensitive applications.
These requirements have been central to the development of Sinoboom’s new AB42RJ Plus family.
A broad and dynamic working envelope
The AB42RJ Plus offers not only a maximum working height of 43.6 m, but also a maximized range of movement in all directions.
It provides up to 23 m working horizontal working envelope (depending on platform load), substantial up-and-over capability, and a 15.1 m below-ground reach offering optimized access in applications including bridges, quaysides and more.
The need to reposition the machine is minimized thanks to 165° horizontally rotating jib (90° to the left, 75° to the right), 180° platform rotation and continuous 360° turntable rotation.
Capacity where it counts
Three loading capacities of 454 kg, 340 kg and 250 kg are on offer, allowing for three occupants plus tools in the highest capacity, maximizing efficient productivity.
Useful capacity is retained across a substantial part of the working envelope. 454 kg can be carried at 13 m outreach and 41 m platform height, while different load modes allow for balancing of capacity against reach, according to the application.
Designed to work where large booms are needed
Practicality is to the fore, with a combination of 4WD and 4WS, 40% gradeability, foam-filled RT tires, and an X-type expandable chassis.
With axles retracted, machine width is only 2.49 m, enabling easy transportation. In working configuration, the expanded chassis provides the stability to support the machine’s full working envelope, while the 4WS enables maneuverability on congested jobsites.
Three power choices, one platform
Another major focus of the AB42RJ Plus development is giving rental companies greater flexibility in how they configure their fleets.
The platform has been developed around three power solutions: diesel, full electric and full electric with a removable Range Extender.
The diesel variant features a Stage V Deutz engine, conventionally suited to demanding long-term outdoor and rough-terrain applications.
The full electric variant is powered by a 76 kWh lithium battery system, powering around two days’ operating autonomy and well-suited to noise- and emissions-critical scenarios.
Where charging of electric machines is problematic, the Sinoboom Range Extender adds further operational flexibility, enabling prolonged quiet autonomy without relying on access to mains power.
This presents a valuable option to rental companies who may choose between diesel and electric at the point of purchase.
Easy transport
Transportation has been optimized from the start, with both local and international logistics considered. The AB42RJ Plus HD is designed for the jib to sit alongside the machine, for an overall stowed length of 11. m, width of 2.49 m and height of 2.83 m. Crucially, these dimensions can also be accommodated in a 40HQ container for international logistics, and on a 3-axle truck for local transportation.
Commonality aimed at reducing fleet complexity
The AB42RJ Plus HD also forms part of Sinoboom’s wider modular product strategy.
Key structures and components are shared with the TB42RJ Plus telescopic boom, including elements of the chassis, platform, controls and hydraulic architecture, while the diesel and electric articulated versions themselves share major structures and common components.
For rental companies operating mixed fleets, greater component commonality can help simplify parts management, technician familiarization and service support.
The machine is also equipped with Sinoboom’s large-format SmartHub display, bringing fault information, calibration and speed adjustment together on one interface without requiring an additional handheld diagnostic tool.
Safety architecture includes a safety-rated controller, dual-channel sensors and secondary guarding as standard.
Built around rental reality
The 40 m-plus articulated boom category is becoming increasingly competitive, with a focus not only on maximum height but on the combination of reach, capacity, power choice, transportability and jobsite efficiency.
With the AB42RJ Plus, it is the combination that matters: 43.6 m working height, up to 23 m working outreach, 15.1 m below-ground reach, up to 454 kg platform capacity, a 165° rotating jib, 4WD × 4WS, compact transport dimensions and three power configurations built around a common platform.
For rental companies, that means one high-reach articulated boom concept designed to address a wider variety of applications – from construction and industrial maintenance to infrastructure, urban projects and jobsites where noise and emissions increasingly influence equipment selection.
