Leading UK heavy lift specialist Osprey deploys TII SCHEUERLE’s electric PowerPack Unit (ePPU) in a complex port operation.
Heavy transport operations are increasingly taking place in environments where conventional diesel-powered equipment reaches its limits – such as enclosed production halls, shipyards and sensitive port areas. With the first known electric SPMT transport operation in the United Kingdom, Osprey and TII SCHEUERLE demonstrate that zero-emission heavy transport is already a practical reality under demanding operating conditions.
Using the fully electric PowerPack Unit (ePPU) supplied by TII SCHEUERLE, Osprey carried out the operation entirely under electric power. The project demonstrates how zero-emission drive technology opens up new possibilities for heavy transport, particularly in enclosed buildings and environmentally sensitive areas where low-noise, emission-free solutions are increasingly required.
With around 200 axle lines, Osprey operates the largest SPMT fleet in the United Kingdom. For a demanding project in a complex port environment, the company deployed TII SCHEUERLE’s electric PowerPack Unit for the first time. A critical component was loaded onto SPMTs inside an enclosed building, transported to the berth and transferred onto a barge via roll-on/roll-off (RoRo). Every stage of the operation was completed using the battery-electric ePPU.
The project highlights one of the key advantages of electrically powered SPMTs. Unlike conventional diesel-powered PowerPack Units, the ePPU operates with zero local emissions and significantly reduced noise levels. This enables heavy transport operations inside production facilities, port buildings and other environmentally sensitive areas where exhaust emissions and noise can become limiting factors.

The fully electric PowerPack Unit combines the proven capabilities of the SCHEUERLE SPMT with state-of-the-art battery technology. With a battery capacity of 320 kWh, it delivers performance comparable to the proven diesel-powered PPU Z390. Depending on the application, the battery provides sufficient capacity for a full working day. Fast DC charging with up to 300 kW, intelligent battery management and compatibility across all SCHEUERLE SPMT generations enable seamless integration into existing fleets.
For Osprey, the project marks another step towards more sustainable heavy transport solutions. By integrating zero-emission drive technology into its fleet, the company continues to expand its ability to deliver fully integrated transport solutions while reducing environmental impact throughout the entire project lifecycle.
