Liebherr-Australia commemorates the opening of its new training centre in Western Australia

• On 27 August, Liebherr-Australia celebrated the official opening of its new training centre in Perth, Western Australia, with an exclusive customer evening
• The new centre is comprised of a 1,250 m² workshop that houses physical Liebherr equipment and engines for practical training as well as three dedicated training rooms equipped with a range of machine and diagnostic simulators
• Customers and industry peers experienced the centre’s facilities firsthand with demonstrations of the cutting-edge training simulators

Liebherr-Australia held a customer evening at its new training centre in Perth, Western Australia, late last month to celebrate its official opening. The new facility includes three dedicated training rooms equipped with different simulators and a 1,250 m² workshop for practical training. Customers and industry peers were able to experience training simulators and other cutting-edge training technology throughout the evening.

Adelaide (Australia), 21 September 2026 – Liebherr-Australia’s new training centre provides a dedicated environment for advanced, technology-enabled training for customers, Liebherr support teams and other professionals within the mining industry right across Australia.

‘Automation, remote operation, advanced diagnostics, electrification and increasingly sophisticated machine systems are changing the skills required to operate and maintain mining equipment. We have a responsibility to make sure the people working with that equipment have the knowledge, skills and confidence to get the best from it – safely, reliably and productively,’ says Peter Wilson, Liebherr-Australia’s national training manager for mining.

Inside the new training centre

The facility includes a spacious administrative building that has three dedicated training rooms that contain three machine simulators – a T 264 truck, an R 9350 excavator and an R 9800 excavator – as well as diagnostic simulators for technical training. There is also a 1,250 m² workshop where a mixture of physical Liebherr equipment and engines provide participants with the comprehensive, hands-on experience needed to support Liebherr equipment in the field.

‘We designed this facility to give technicians, operators and maintenance teams access to structured, practical training supported by Liebherr people, systems and technology,’ Wilson says.

Customers and industry peers alike had the chance to experience some of this technology for themselves during the official opening celebrations, with demonstrations of excavator simulators, a LiReCon teleoperations stand for the PR 776 G8 dozer and LiDIA engine diagnostic software. The evening also included entertainment, opportunities for networking and an opening address from Liebherr-Australia’s managing director, Trent Wehr.

Ready for the future

With this new training centre, Liebherr-Australia has the capacity to extend its training to include topics that could benefit the wider mining workforce within Australia. There are plans to introduce onboarding programs for apprentices in conjunction with courses about electrical principles, programming and the fundamentals of hydraulics.

‘For Liebherr, this facility is another demonstration that we are here for the long term. The machines and technologies we will be supporting into the future will continue to change. We need to be developing the skills for that future today,’ says Wilson.
