More than 200MW Power Supporting China’s Data Center Development in 2025

0

Driven by rapid advancements in artificial intelligence and the country’s smart computing initiatives, China is experiencing significant expansion in its data center development, with total capacity projected to exceed 60 GW by 2030. As of early 2026, China has established an extensive nationwide network of more than 400 data centers. Over the past decade, HIMOINSA has played an active role in supporting China’s unprecedented data center boom. In 2025 alone, approximately 100 HIMOINSA generator sets have been installed to deliver a combined capacity of more than 200MW to data center projects across China, while witnessing the rapid evolution of the nation’s digital infrastructure landscape.

Shift Toward AI-Optimized Infrastructure

The data center market is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 18% between 2025 and 2030, while AI-focused data centers are expanding at a significantly faster rate of 35%. This divergence highlights a clear shift toward AI-optimized infrastructure.

The transition is reflected in the increasing deployment of high-density computing environments, advanced cooling systems, and enhanced power architectures engineered to meet substantially higher energy demands. As grid connectivity and redundancy requirements become more complex, backup power systems must scale accordingly.

In this evolving landscape, high-capacity and highly reliable power solutions are essential to maintaining uptime and ensuring that data centers consistently meet the continuous, high-performance demands of AI-driven applications.

Building on this momentum, HIMOINSA strengthens its market presence by delivering reliable, high-performance power solutions tailored to the evolving needs of large-scale, AI-driven data centers, through ongoing technological innovation and product development with its parent company – Yanmar Group.

“East Data, West Computing” Strategy

The “East Data, West Computing” strategy is a major national infrastructure initiative aimed at reshaping the distribution of computing resources across China. It shifts data processing workloads from power-constrained eastern cities such as Beijing and Shanghai to resource-rich western regions including Inner Mongolia, Guizhou, and Ningxia.

HIMOINSA has actively contributed to this initiative through its participation in key infrastructure projects. In the development of the Intelligent Computing Center Town in Yinchuan, Ningxia — a smart industrial hub focused on server manufacturing, AI data centers and AI applications, HIMOINSA has supplied three units of HTW-2295 T5 10.5 kV generator sets to Sky Cloud AI Data (天云智算), delivering approximately 6 MW of reliable back-up power that are engineered to support high-performance, mission-critical AI data center operations.

The country’s “East Data, West Computing” strategy also involves creating eight computing hubs to distribute the resource burden between east and west China. In 2025, HIMOINSA has supplied 24 units of HTW-2295 T5 10.5KV, in total of 48MW backup power to Haoyang Cloud (北京皓扬)’s data center in Langfang, 18 units of HTW-2555 T5 10.5KV, 41MW power to Zdata’s data center in Weixian, and another 24 units of HTW-2295 T5 10.5KV, 48MW to Cloud Data Center, serving the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei Urban Agglomeration (BTH), one of the eight hubs to enhance resource allocation and improve overall efficiency across the country.

These gensets play a vital role in ensuring reliable backup power for large-scale AI and data processing activities in western China. HIMOINSA’s robust, high-capacity solutions are closely aligned with the objectives of the national strategy, supporting the stable and efficient operation of next-generation digital infrastructure.

Increasing Overseas Investment

Amid the rapid expansion of cloud computing, data centers have become a central focus of global investment. This momentum has accelerated significantly over the past three years, as artificial intelligence continues to reshape the broader technology landscape.

China, in particular, is not only scaling capacity to meet domestic demand but also expanding its global footprint through cloud services and digital infrastructure investments. Leading Chinese technology companies, including Alibaba, Tencent, and ByteDance, are accelerating their international expansion to meet growing global demand for AI-driven services and digital infrastructure.

GDS Holdings, a leading data center operator in China, is developing the Kempas Tech Park in Johor Bahru, Malaysia—a large-scale hyperscale campus designed to reach approximately 100 MW of capacity to support AI and cloud workloads.

Building on a strong track record of collaboration and successful project delivery, HIMOINSA was once again selected as the preferred generator set provider. For this phase of the project, 18 units of HTW-2555 T5 11 kV generator sets—representing a total installed capacity of 41MW were deployed to ensure a highly reliable backup power supply.

The continued partnership reflects GDS Holdings’ confidence in HIMOINSA’s product quality and proven performance. The company’s ability to deliver robust, efficient, and reliable power solutions—tailored to the stringent requirements of hyperscale data centers has been instrumental in supporting mission-critical operations and ensuring uninterrupted service availability.

Energy and Sustainability Focus

As data centers become increasingly large consumers of electricity, the integration of cleaner energy solutions has become critical to achieving a more sustainable future.

HIMOINSA’s next-generation HGY Series, designed for data centers and mission-critical applications, has been meticulously engineered to deliver sustainable and efficient performance. The series supports the future adoption of alternative fuels such as hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO), gas, and hydrogen, enabling potential emissions reductions of up to 90%.

These advancements are achieved through state-of-the-art emissions reduction technologies, including optimized in-cylinder design and precise combustion control. The HGY Series combines advanced combustion technology typically found in high-speed engines with the reliability of medium-speed platforms, ensuring high performance, improved efficiency, best-in-class fuel oil consumption (FOC), and a compact, low-emissions footprint.

HIMOINSA remains committed to supporting the development of data center infrastructure in China and globally through continuous technological innovation and advanced engineering capabilities. The company focuses on delivering tailored products and customized power solutions that meet the specific requirements of modern data center environments—ensuring reliability, efficiency, and scalability for mission-critical operations.
