- One compact access module combines multiple entry methods in a single device, reducing complexity and speeding up installation
- Secure proximity access with intentional Bluetooth unlocking and precise ultra-wideband (UWB) for hands-free entry, compatible with latest generation smartphones.
- Simplified network design and Microsoft Teams integration enable seamless communication and scalable deployment
ABB today announced a series of enhancements to Welcome IP, its IP-based door entry platform, which will be on show at Light + Building 2026. The updates focus on faster installation, flexible authentication and open integration – helping professionals commission projects more efficiently while delivering a seamless, secure experience for residents, tenants and operators.
At the center of the upgrade is a new unified Access Module that brings multiple entry methods together in a single device. PIN keypad, fingerprint, RFID (MIFARE DESFire), NFC and ultra-wideband (UWB) are combined within one compact unit. By reducing the number of components required at the entrance, the system simplifies specification, shortens installation time and ensures a consistent, design-led appearance.
Welcome IP introduces a revolutionary hands‑free access experience that combines state‑of‑the‑art technologies. By leveraging short‑range Bluetooth together with Ultra‑Wideband (UWB), the system enables true walk‑up entry with precise, directional distance detection that minimizes false triggers and ensures privacy‑focused, device‑based authentication, all operating independently of Wi‑Fi or mobile data availability. The system works with the latest‑generation smartphones.
For situations where a mobile device is not available, Welcome IP offers secure fallback options, including the integrated fingerprint reader and a keypad. Temporary PIN codes can also be created remotely, providing convenient access for guests.
Raimondo Salandra, Business Line Leader, Home Solutions at ABB Electrification Smart Buildings, said:
“These enhancements take Welcome IP to the next level. By unifying authentication into a single module, adding UWB for precision proximity and simplifying deployment through a single PoE network, we are giving professionals a system that installs faster and integrates more easily, while delivering a secure and intuitive experience for users.”
Welcome IP also integrates with Microsoft Teams, enabling professional users and companies to receive and manage door calls within their existing workflow. Native SIP support allows connection with SIP phones and unified communications systems, making it suitable for both new-build and retrofit projects.
The system architecture further simplifies deployment. All devices connect through a single PoE network, removing the need for dedicated proprietary configurations. Flexible IP addressing options allow installers to adapt to different IT environments. For single houses projects, automatic device detection and simplified wizards on touch panels drastically reduce setup time. Forwarding and Grouping functions enable intelligent call routing across home offices, shared spaces and multi-tenant environments.
The platform remains scalable and future-ready, with ONVIF Profile S camera compatibility, remote maintenance and firmware updates, and the flexibility to support installations ranging from single homes and villas to larger mixed-use developments. Designed to evolve with changing user needs, Welcome IP brings secure access and simplified installation together within a cohesive, open platform.
At Light + Building 2026 (Hall 12.0, Booth B/E 51) from March 8 to 13, ABB will be showcasing ‘Inside the Innovation’, demonstrating how its scalable solutions for residential, commercial and industrial buildings work together to deliver smarter, more connected spaces.
Welcome IP forms part of this integrated building approach, highlighting how intelligent access supports comfort, security and operational efficiency from the moment users arrive.
